Mark James
Security Specialist
Education: Studied at Ringwood Comprehensive School with no real idea of what I wanted to do when I left. Achieved credits and distinctions for car mechanics then went on to develop an interest in computers.
Highlight/s of your career: Having an old friend contact me after reading one of my articles online, following the advice and finding it "very helpful and informative", then using the information at one of his local computer groups to educate others.
Position and history at ESET: Started as ESET support technician in the late 90's, and then went on to become technical team leader for ESET UK. Needing a UK spokesperson to spread the ESET voice I stepped forward to fill that role, went on to become the ESET UK Security Specialist, which includes technical speaking at UK events along with print or online requests for specialist comments on current security topics.
What malware do you hate the most: Ransomware. Most malware can be removed with effort and time but ransomware can, in some cases, destroy people's memories forever.
Favorite activities:My family is my life. Time seems to move faster as you get older and you only get one shot at being a good parent. Any way I can enjoy family time together is grasped with both hands.
Golden Rule: If you want to keep it private do not store it in the cloud.
When did you get your first computer and what kind was it? : The first computer I owned was a Sinclair ZX Spectrum, then a Commodore 64, Commodore Amiga's 500, 1000, 2000, 500+ and 1200 and finally moving into the world of IBM PC.
Favorite computer game/activity: I spend far too much time playing World of Warcraft. In fact, all I have ever played is RPG/MMORPGS, including Everquest, Star Wars and every other MMO out there at some point.
